Critical problem during boot - advfs initialization?

Hi'

We have a critical problem here as one of our machines cannot
boot. During the boot phase (with all the auto-detect messages for
'tu0', 'scsi0', etc) we see the following message after which nothing
more happens!

ADVFS: using 3491 buffers containing 27.27 megabytes of memory

Does anybody know what is going on here? We don't know what the above
message actually means (does the advfs software connect to the
disks/filesystems at this point or is the amount of memory mentioned
only a function of the available memory?), and thus we don't know what
to do from here. Any help will be highly appreciated!

We have tried a couple of things to no avail:
- to boot with the generic kernel.
- to boot of a CD, mount the root, and move most /etc/fdmns entries to
an alternate directory - no luck.
- to physical disconnect all disk but the root disk - no luck.
- run the self-test program from the boot prompt.

/tonny
