Hi,
We have an alpha 2100 connected to our lan through a DECconcentrator
900TH and during the 'rush' hours (between 8pm and 11pm our time) the
machine stops responding to certain computers and decservers. We were
intrigued with the problem and then we decided to use a ping-like
program that would connect to the echo service, send something, expect
the same string and calculate the elapsed time. This program was run on
three machines, including the alpha itself (let's call it A). The
results were amazing:
While computer A was unreachable from computer B it was reachable from
computer C. And computer A was able to connect to both computers!!!
The computers are connected logically as follows:
Logical LAN's
| \ Ethernet
| :::::::::::::::: 900TH - DEC concentrator
v ! ! 900EF - DEC switch
+-----+ FDDI link +--+--+ +--+--+ 900TM - DEC repeater
| 900 | | 900 | | 900 |
| TH +==============+ EF | | TM |
+--+--+ +--+--+ +--+--+
| | |
| | |
+--+--+ +--+--+ +--+--+
| CPU | | HUB | | CPU |
| A | +--+--+ | B |
+-----+ | +-----+
+--+--+
| CPU |
| C |
+-----+
These logical LAN's are provided by a DEC900 multiswitch. Has anyone had
the same problem out there? We have contacted digital representatives
and they had no response to this problem. It seems to be a problem of
the DECrepeater but there is also this multiswitch between them...
Thanks for any response,
Gustavo.
