I've been working on setting up Majordomo 1.93 over the last few
days, which appeared to be going slowly but satisfactorily.
However, this morning I was greeted by a system which was
seizing up fast. It had lots of sendmail and majordomo wrapper
processes running which appear to be caused by mail looping through
the aliases file.
I noticed last night that mail sent to list-request was not
getting logged in the majordomo log file and no message was
being returned. I've been following a document which I pulled
from the majordomo site which recommends putting a line like:
sample-request:"|/usr/local/majordomo/bin/wrapper request-answer sample"
in aliases to deal with subscribers which use the -request format
rather than mailing majordomo itself.
Subscribing via majordomo works o.k. but mailing list-request doesn't,
though I can't figure out quite what's going on.
It appears that sendmail doesn't notice mail is looping because maybe
the wrapper is causing different message IDs to be generated.
Mailer daemon then tries to return the message but because of the
wrapper it tries to return it to majordomo which then invokes the
alias again so causing the loop.
Am I right? Can anyone see what might be wrong with the -request
line?
I've commented out all the aliases for the time being to get the
system running again, but here's the majordomo lines I have:
