lockmode = 4, performance hit ??

     Peeps,
     
     Does anyone have any experience of using OSF with the lockmode
     set to '4', ie. debugging mode ? We have experienced
     'simple_lock: time limit exceeded' panics and DEC advise us
     that we need to set this in order properly diagnose the crash.
     
     Does this have much effect on performance ?
     
     Any info much appreciated.
