I recently installed sendmail v8.8.2 on a network of DEC
3000's running DU v4.0. Has anyone encountered the following
problems:
a) I can't seem to turn off VRFY and EXPN requests. I've
tried both
O PrivacyOptions=goaway
and O PrivacyOptions=novrfy,noexpn,authwarnings
in /var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cf, but sendmail continues to respond to
VRFY and EXPN requests. Am I doing something stupid or is this a real
problem?
Answer
------
The former. You have to have a symbolic link from
/etc/sendmail.cf (which is where sendmail v8.8.2 looks) to
/usr/var/adm/sendmail/sendmail.cf (which is where Digital puts the
configuration). I knew this and had my server set up correctly, but I
had forgotten the links on the clients. (Head hanging in shame..)

2) I don't distribute aliases via NIS (although I do use NIS
to distribute other maps). Before this never made a difference, but
with version 8.8.2 I had to take yp out of the line
aliases=local,yp
in /etc/svc.conf. Otherwise sendmail would complain loudly and
frequently about non-existent NIS maps in the mail.log file. Has
anyone else observed this?
Answer
------
None yet. (Actually this is just for information; as
indicated I was able to workaround the problem by changing
/etc/svc.conf.) If I hear anything I'll summarize.
