This isn't really a major problem, just an irritation. I have an
AlphaStation 255/233 here (running Digital Unix 3.2D-1, which was factory
installed). It has a RRD45 cdrom in it, plus the onboard audio system
(audiocontrol shows "ALPHA-AXP Microsoft Sound Board compatible"). I've
got MME210 installed (PAK MMS-RT)
I have a pair of speakers plugged into the audio output (headphone) jack,
and I can hear the regular beeping, plus I can use DECsound to play AU
files, and I can use AlphaVCR to play AVI files with sound. However, I
can't listen to an audio CD through the same output - to listen to a CD, I
have to plug the speakers (or headphones) into the headphone jack on the
cdrom drive.
The wierd thing is that if I go into audiocontrol, turn on the VU meter,
and select "Line In" for the input port, the VU meter shows that it's
getting something from the CD...in fact, I can plug the speakers into the
"line in" jack on the alpha, and then I get CD audio only and no sound
from .au files or beeps.
Has anyone else observed this problem? I have Digital Unix 4.0a on order
which will supposedly come with MME220, so that might help, but it seems
to me that I'm missing some simple connection here...
I hope that this explaination doesn't sound like total gibberish. Please
mail me with suggestions/questions and I'll summarize.
