Last problem for today.
Yesterday I upgraded from DU 3.2c to DU 3.2g which was required before I
could go to DU 4.0a.
First issue: I'll take the heat for this one (sort of) since I didn't
read enough of the 5 pounds of paper that come in the box. I assumed
that installing from a disk labeled DU 3.2G would install DU 3.2G.
It does not. It installs 3.2C. It would have been nice if the install
program had noticed and pointed out I was installing the same OS which
I was already running on, but it did not.
DU 3.2G is a patch installed by using setld. That was in the doc, but
I went for the BIG installation guide, and didn't look at the installation
notes so I didn't notice that. Be ye forewarned if you plan on doing
this upgrade.
Once the 3.2g was installed I tried to build a kernel with doconfig.
This failed with several unresolved references to external routines.
I was lucky. I had a person assisting me who works with DU source
(we do VAR stuff here and have a source tree). He was able to find the
missing module and we determined that the 'files' file was missing
an entry for sim_htm.c, therefore when the Makefile to build the
kernel got created it was missing the reference to sim_htm.o where
the needed routines live. Once we added the entry to 'files' the
kernel built and ran OK.
I do not know what triggered the need for that routine, but something
did and it didn't work.
As with the other two messages, I'm curious if anyone else has seen this
and hoping that this will help someone else who might hit the same
predicament.
