SUMMARY: disktab entry for Olympus 2.6Gb MO (no luck)

We have had no success with properly labeling this drive in order to access
the full 2.6Gb (1.3Gb/side). We have been trying different combinations of
cylinders/tracks/sector/bytes, but still "no joy".

If the device is reasonably behaved it may be able to tell you
through the DEVGETGEOM I/O control, which uses information
from selected SCSI mode pages. Newfs and disklabel will try
to ask the disk if no entry is in /etc/disktab. On the other
hand, being CD like, it could have just one track, 1 or 0
cylinders and lots and lots of sectors. Or, it could have
lots of tracks, with one track per cylinder and an ordinary
         number of sectors per track.

Either geometry is one that newfs is not likely to appreciate,
so a lie may be in order.

but Alan summed it up (after I shared some disk geometry with him):

Digital UNIX is not going to like that 1 KB sector size.
You won't be able to create a file system on the device.

Keith.
