Hi,

Any of you using amanda for backing-up ?

I have just install it on an alpha 2000/300 runnig 3.2C

  The results are:

--------8<--------------8<----------------8<----------------8<--------

# amcheck-2.3.0 fenix
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
ERROR: statfs /dumps/amanda: No such file or directory
ERROR: /dev/a:: not an amanda tape.
       (expecting a new tape)
NOTE: skipping tape-writeable test.
Server check took 9.823 seconds.

Amanda Backup Client Hosts Check
--------------------------------
ERROR: fenix: [access as bin not allowed from root_at_fenix.eui.upm.es]
Client check: 1 hosts checked in 0.108 seconds, 1 problems found.

(brought to you by Amanda 2.3.0)

--------8<--------------8<----------------8<----------------8<--------

I don't understand any of the errors:

How do I tell not to use a holding disk, in order to not get the default
  disk '/dumps/amanda'

What is the problem with /dev/a: if when I do

  # mt -f /dev/a: rewind

  it works find.

I created my /.rhost (for testing) and told options.h not to force-user
and it still say access as bin not allowed from root_at_fenix.eui.upm.es

As you could see I'm a little lost... any help would be appreciated

  I'll sumarize, thank you all.
