Running Expect under DU 3.2D

Hello System Managers,

This may or may not be DU related issue.

I just installed Expect 5.21.5 on an Alpha 3600 running Du 3.2d. I am
new to Expect and am trying out some simple interactive commands. I am
having a problem understanding why the following command returns within
a few seconds.

jackb_at_pgw6.picker.com [130] expect
expect1.2> expect "string1\n"
expect1.2>

It is my understanding that I should not see the "expect1.2" prompt until
I send the "string1\n".
