Dear managers,
On a Alpha 200, (host 1) I have a problem concerning the network. It is
connected via a router to other hosts. If I ping to a host which is connected
to the same cable (host 2) as host 1 it works. If it is not on the same cable
ping fails.
With host 2 there is a connection through the router.The network gurus say that
the router does not filter any IP adresses.
On host 1 (DU 3.2c):
ifconfig tu0 tu0: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
inet aaa.bbb.ccc.8 netmask fffffc00 broadcast aaa.bbb.ddd.255 imptu 1500
On host 2 (DU 3.d-2, on the same cable as host 1):
ifconfig tu0 on host 2(on the same cable) gives tu0:
flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
inet aaa.bbb.ccc.51 netmask ffff0000 broadcast aaa.bbb.255.255 imptu 1500
On host 3 (DU 3.c, on a differnt cable as host 1) ifconfig tu0 on host 3 (on a
different cable) gives tu0:
flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
inet aaa.bbb.ccc.9 netmask fffffc00 broadcast aaa.bbb.ddd.255 imptu 1500
I have setup the network with netsetup and normally it worked without any
problems. This problem occurs only on this particular host.
I compared on the console level all variables begin with ewa0 on host 1 and
host 2 and they are the same.
There are BNC connectors
Questions:
1. Does anyone has any ideas how to solve this problem ?
2. Whats this strange broadcast address on hosts 1 and 3
Thanks for your help.
