I am running DU 3.2f on an AlphaServer 1000 4/266 w/ 64 MB RAM and a
TLZ09 4mm tape drive. Sometimes my backups work and sometimes they
don't. Lately, they don't work at all.
The uerf event log reports a bunch of these CAM SCSI errors every time
it fails:
----- EVENT INFORMATION -----
EVENT CLASS ERROR EVENT
OS EVENT TYPE 199. CAM SCSI
SEQUENCE NUMBER 591.
OPERATING SYSTEM DEC OSF/1
OCCURRED/LOGGED ON Mon Mar 3 03:47:38 1997

SYSTYPE x00000000
----- UNIT INFORMATION -----
CLASS x0001 TAPE
SUBSYSTEM x0000 DISK

TARGET x3
In the archives, I found a suggestion to use a shorter SCSI cable - I'm
going to go try to dig one up from our box of VAX odds and ends.
If that doesn't work, what is the next step? Is this most definitely a
hardware problem that I should call Digital about, or is there a
possibility that tapes / software could be causing these errors?
Thanks,
Derrick Miller
