DEC won't admit to it, but there is a problem with 1000 firmware on that
CD if you update it that way. I ended up following the NT firmware update
instructions, and ftp'ed the lastest firmware from DEC, you'll have to use
a PC to make the firmware disks. It will update BOTH arc and srm, so your
fine for DU. Let me know how it works out.

It's possible to do the upgrade following the procedure described at
ftp://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/readme.html

Bill Clemence at DEC
to get around this problem for updating the SRM to
the latest off the 3.8 cd;
after booting the the update CD, at the

LFU UPD> prompt type:

        UPD> update srm -path iso9660:[ALPHA1000]MKSRMROM.EXE/dka400

This was the one I used to solve the problem - thanks very much to those of you
who responded - I may get DU4.0b installed now !!!!

ORIGINAL QUESTION
In preparation for an upgrade from DU4.0a to 4.0b I tried to install the latest firmware
revision (firmware CD is v3.8).
The ARC firmware upgrades OK to v4.49 but the SRM update fails with the following message
SRM open failure firmware filename 'srm_fw' - the SRM firmware revision remains at v4.6-218.
I can downgrade using the v3.7 firmware CD suggesting that it is not a Hardware problem.
DEC CSC brought me a replacement v3.8 CD but this fails with the same message !!
Has anyone else had problems like this ?
