Original email follows:

>I just recently installed 4.0B on an Alpha 3800. I'm trying to run the
>"monitor" program but keep getting the following error:

>monitor: read_kernel: Can't read from /dev/kmem: No such device or address.

>I'm running this as root, so there should not be a permission issue.

>ls -l /dev/k*

>crw------- 1 root system 31, 0 Mar 5 12:57 /dev/kbinlog
>crw------- 1 root system 3, 1 Feb 26 11:03 /dev/kcon
>crw-rw---- 1 root system 25, 1 Feb 26 11:03 /dev/keyboard0
>crw------- 1 root system 3, 0 Feb 26 11:03 /dev/klog
>cr--r----- 1 root mem 2, 1 Mar 6 07:57 /dev/kmem

>If this was just a permission issue I would expect the message to read:
>monitor: live: Can't open /dev/kmem: Permission denied.

>I removed /dev/kmem and remade the device with /dev/MAKEDEV kmem

>I still have the same problem. This isn't a 4.0B problem because the
>monitor program is running on another Alpha with the same OS.
