Problems after CPU switch...

I'm running an AlphaServer 1000 under 3.2C as file server for my campus.
Recently, we began to pick up CPU exception errors, ultimately resulting in
intermittent (about every 2 weeks) system crashes. This morning, we had Digital
replace the CPU, after which, all of my external SCSI disks became unusable.
All of the disks were seen at the boot rom prompt, using 'show device', however,
when the system booted up, it would indicate 'no fsck required, disk unmounted
cleanly' on each of the external drives, then fail with 'signal 11' and a
recommendation that I run fsck manually. Running fsck manually indicates no
problem with any of the disks. The message associated with the 'signal 11'
failure is 'inconsistency in file system'. These disk are all old ufs disks
transfered intact from a group of Ultrix boxes. When the old CPU was
reinstalled the problem went away. I'm hoping it will hold up until a solution
can be found. My only guess at the moment would be firmware. Any ideas out
there?
