Gernot Salzer suggested that sending kill -HUP to inetd might not
be enough and that I should kill the joind process. I did this
with kill -TERM and then sent kill -HUP to inetd. This restarted
joind WITHOUT the -d1 option (which was still there before killing it).
Since then, no more messages have appeared in /var/join/log.
