Hello,
For printing I use an HP Laserjet 5M printer (named phyrs) sitting out on the
network. Today, for no apparent reason, jobs sent with lp command stopped to
print. When I issue an "lpq" command, it eventually comes back with "connection
to phyrs is down".
I checked all the obvious things (obvious for a turkey like me):
o "ping phyrs" works well with 0% packet loss
o printer is on and working for other people on the network
o "ps -A" shows that an lpd process is running
o I checked /etc/printcap, it contains
phyrs|lp0|phyrs:\
:lf=/usr/adm/lperr:\
:lp=:\
:rm=phyrs:\
:rp=raw:\
:sd=/usr/spool/lpd:
o rebooting my machine (DEC 3000-600) didn't help
So how is it that I'm getting a "connection down" message from lpq? Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
