disklabel question

    Managers,

I haven't received any replies to my post yesterday and have reason to believe
it may not have made it out, so I am reposting:

I wish to install a new data disk on a DU 4.0 system. I did a MAKEDEV rz8.
After physically attaching the disk, on reboot, I see:

Mar 11 13:58:09 corvette vmunix: rz8 at scsi1 target 0 lun 0 (LID=3) (SEAGATE
ST19171N 0019)

This is a 9 GB Barracuda. Following the prescription given in this forum for
labelling non-DEC disks, where the disk should supply the label, I did:

disklabel -wrn rz8 unknown

The process just hangs. kill -9 doesn't kill the process. All other
disklabel commands to the disk also hang.

What am I doing wrong?
