"last" command does not give updated logs...

Hello!

It seems that when the "last" command is executed, it still gives an
*outdated* log... however, when fingering a user, the last login entry is
updated...

Any ideas on how "last" would give the *updated* log? Also, could anyone
send me the file permissions for utmp and wtmp at /usr/adm directory?
