Dear Digital:
Gosh, it's so very nice of you to be watching out for me. But, gee, I
don't even have a graphics _card_ on my AlphaStation 200 that I want to
upgrade to 3.2G from 3.2A - whatever would I do with ALL OF THOSE STUPID X
FILES? And since I didn't need them, I've long since reclaimed that space
in /usr, and so THE BASIC UPGRADE FAILS! Whatever were you thinking when you
decreed that I _must_ want happy GUIs? I don't, in fact.
More to the point, how can I upgrade just the files I have a hope of using
without having to REFORMAT MY ENTIRE SYSTEM?
Frothing only slightly,
Pat Wilson

PS And who's the bright light who decided that /usr/var (huh?) was a
winner?
