Thanks to all who responded on my question:

Most people suggested I boot single user (boot -fl s), but I forgot to
specify that I wanted my machine in multi-user mode.

Some suggested I plugged a console in the serial port and change the
"console" parameter to "serial" with:
set console serial
I couldn't do that either because I knew there was a way to do this with my
VGA screen.

Finally, the right answer to my problem was :

- remove/rename the /sbin/rc3.d/S95xdm file;
- make sure there is a getty for the console in the /etc/inittab file.

That was it.

Thanks again.
