DU Managers,
Some of my business critical system are configured on HSZ40s and as we
all know and experienced that once in a while the cache batteries
would go bad. Even if the cache_policy is set to "B", which allows the
write-through access to all RAIDsets for about 10 hours, during which
time battery should be recharging/replaced. If the battery don't
recharge within 10 hours, the RAIDsets become inoperative.
Cache_Policy "A" makes RAIDset inoperative until battery is
replaced/charged.
One can live with this dilemma, when this happens during the week,
over weekends its a big hassle.
My HSZ40 controllers are not connected to any sort of console manager,
(for example PolyCenter Console Manager) which would allow me to trap
the "low battery messages" or "disks failed over to this controller"
type of messages and take necessary action even if I am at Dodgers
Stadium.
Since, got battered few times by those batteries, I had taken some
temporary (manual) steps to send alerts. PolyCenter solution is kind
of on-hold.
Q: Is there a way to run hszterm (non-interactive/via crontab entry)
and dump the output of "SHOW THIS_CONTROLLER FULL".
It would be interesting to hear how other managers resolve this
without using PolyCenter Console Manager type of software.
Advise: If you have WRITEBACK_CACHE enable, read carefully the cache
policy, how it works and how to recover (flush) the cache without
loosing data. You will need it!.
Many Thanks in advance,
Ronny
