I have inherited the following set up :
Alpha 500 - DNS for one class C,
3 webservers and sendmail for 1 domain.
Alpha 200 - 2 webservers.
The virtual domains will want their own mail so
I am thinking of converting this to :
Alpha 500 - all the websites (virtual domains using Apache)
Alpha 200 - DNS and virtual email domains.
I am quite happy with doing this from scratch on FreeBSD and
AIX systems. But OSF is slightly different and I have a lot
of users (plus mail) and named db configuration files
that I would rather not re-enter from scratch.
I think that the following need to be transfered from the
Alpha 500 to the ALpha 200 :
/etc/passwd
/etc/group
/etc/hosts
/etc/networks
/etc/services
/etc/protocols
/etc/aliases
/etc/rpc (not sure)
/var/spool/mail/*
/usr/users/*
/usr/home/*
/etc/namedb/*
/etc/resolv.conf
Have I overlooked anything by chance ?
I am also having trouble with basic copying of the files :
I tried to use rdist to send the files from the Alpha 500
but got an error due to the rdist permissions not being set
on the Alpha 200.
In fact, rlogind was not running on the 200 - I assume that
rlogind is required.
So, I entered the Alpha 500 into the /etc/hosts.equiv file of the
Alpha 200, plus set ALLOW ALL in /etc/hosts.allow.
Also added the host to $HOME/.rhosts for root
but still couldn't even start rlogind .... kept
getting an error of "getpeername : Socket Operation on non-socket"
I am about to tarball the namedb and mail directories and ftp
them across - i hope that will keep the permissions and owners
intact.
and I am tempted to create all the configuration files
(even users) again from scratch if all else fails.
Any advice on the best strategy for this migration much appreciated.
And pls excuse my ignorance and lack of brevity.

ps. also, since there is no rc.local, rc.tcpip or
sysconfig files, where is the proper place to
put commands to execute on startup (eg. starting
the webservers) on OSF ?
thank you very much.
