SUMMARY: cc v gcc ?

It seems that there are advantages to both and I intend to compile
each program using cc and then gcc and compare the results. That is I
need to do a bit of a study. The case that I do know of (the one that
generated the question)is vim-4.6. Using cc the vim came out to be 1.2
MB, with gcc vim came out to be 0.647 MB!

I still would like to get pointers to anymore info.
