Hi managers,
We had a very interesting problem this afternoon. We are not able
to reproduce it, so I am looking for suggestions as to how to avoid it
again in the future.
We have a pair of 4100 set up with DECSafe. They are called
Flotsam and Jetsam. We have an NFS service called prod that is mounted
on both machines all the time. This afternoon, prod was being served
from Jetsam. When a user on Flotsam did an ls in one particular
subdirectory of that service, everything was fine. When they did an
ls -l on the same subdirectory, it hung, and was not killable.
We tried the same thing on Jetsam, and it worked fine. We
relocated the service to Flotsam, and the same thing happened; Jetsam
still worked, Flotsam did not.
We ended up rebooting Flotsam to cure the problem. For what it is
worth, the file system in question is advfs.
Thanks,
-cliff
