thanks to alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com and oisin_at_sbcm.com
for answering my question about the 4.0a config file.
The answer is basically you do not need to add the disks to
the config file in 4.0a. Doing a MAKEDEV is all you need.
original question follows...

hi,
I'm a little confused with my new install of du4.0a.
In DU 3.x, configuring a disk in the config file is as follows...
device disk rz0 at scsi0 drive 0
device disk rz1 at scsi0 drive 8
It seems to be different in 4.0a atleast.
When I originally set up the system, I did a doconfig with no
options and let the system figure out what needed to go into the
kernel.
The way it created the config file is as follows...
controller gpc0 at isa0 slot 0 vector gpcintr
controller ace0 at isa0 slot 2 vector aceintr
controller ace1 at isa0 slot 3 vector aceintr
controller lp0 at isa0 slot 4 vector lpintr
controller fdi0 at isa0 slot 5
device disk fd0 at fdi0 drive 0
device disk fd1 at fdi0 drive 1
controller tu0 at pci0 slot 11
I only have one floppy drive. Don't know why 2 are listed. There are
no entries for rz devices. There are no entries for rz devices in
the GENERIC file either. The GENERIC file has ra devices and
re devices for disks. Did this change with DU4.0a?
uerf shows rz0 at scsi0 target 0 lun 0 and
           rz2 at scsi0 target 2 lun 0
Why are there no entries for rz devices in the GENERIC file?
I need to add another rz disk to a ba353 box. Most likely
rz5.
will summarize.
thanks,
Allan
