I received many excellent replies in answer to my question about swap
space. It turns out that the entries in my messages file that I was
concerned about weren't error messages after all. Since I don't have a
/sbin/swapdefault file, the system writes informational messages into the
messages file. This is normal when using deferred mode. Thanks again to
all of the knowledgeable people who took the time to reply to my question.
