Hello,
I was asking a question about DecEvent, wondering if it was part of the
NAS200 package. I also had a question about how the "other" products that
come with the NAS200 package get their licenses installed in LMF.
Thanks to all the people who replied.
Here is the summary:
a) The base piece of DecEvent (the dia utility) comes free with the OS. It
shipped with 3.2D-1 and later. The advantage is that it is better than uerf
when it comes to display hardware errors, it uses a database that is
machine specific to show more information that uerf does. I've heard that
there is a bug with the 2100/2100A where the CPU errors are misinterpreted.
It does not come with the NAS200 package. The other part of this software
that you can install permits better analysis of system events and can
connect to DEC and report the problems. To get this extra stuff, you need
to have a service agreement with DEC and a PAK that is free with the
service agreement ID Key (or something like that). It's like the DSNLink
software. I have not been successful at obtaining it from my regional DEC
office. When I talk to them about those 2 products (DSNLink and DecEvent)
and that infamous 'service agreement ID Key' it looks like they think they
are talking to a martian. They do not seem to know what I am talking about,
neither the salespeople, not the canada service support line could help me
with obtaining this software. I know the software is available at DEC www
site (See UNIX -> Support) but you need that 'ID' to obtain a PAK.
b) The products that are licensed with the NAS200 package get registered in
the LMF when you issue the 'nasinstall' command after loading the subset
with setld.
HTH
Thanks again
