Is anyone aware of any products, from DEC or a third party, which
allow me to put a bunch of NVRAM on a PCI-based alpha, and memory
map and access this memory from user-level programs? I'm willing to
use (and pay) the outrageous prices for DEC prestoserve boards, if
I can be convinced that the functionality that I want is possible.
I don't want the system to use/manage this memory at all, beyond
providing a device driver to memory-map it (and I'm willing to write
the driver if necessary, too).
I tried calling 1-800-DIGITAL, but I was unable to convince any of
the droids that I talked to that:
(1) I'm not running VMS
(2) NVRAM is not a software product
(3) There are DEC alpha products with PCI busses
Any help would be appreciated. <rant> Even more appreciated would be contact
information for someone at DEC who's willing and able to answer questions- in
the past year, I frequently find myself calling DEC first to try to get a
product to perform a specific task, only to end up contacting and purchasing
from another vendor, because no one at DEC that I spoke to was able to answer
my questions, or even interested in being sure that my questions were
answered. </rant>
