SCSI Cable Length / Controllers

Hi!

We have an AlphaServer 400 4/233 with the orginal Fast SCSI-2 controller.
Our internal hard disks get rather hot and we want to put some of them
into an external StorageWorks box, but this does not work - probably due to
cable length limitations.
We therefore consider using a second SCSI controller.
Does anybody know if we can use any cheap standard PCI SCSI controller for
PCs such as the NCR 810 or do we need a controller from DEC?

Any comments welcome,
Willi
