DEC UNIX and Smallworld GIS

We are running a GIS product called Smallworld. We have two servers in
a DECSAFE ASE environment. Smallworld has a licensing scheme where you
buy a license for an ip address. We bought ours for the ip address of
the ASE service that Smallworld will run on. Smallworld, however
determines ip address by apparently using the uname function to
determine the hostname and then resolving the ip address from that
hostname. Here are the questions:

1. Is there anyone out there running Smallworld on an Alpha in this
environment (i.e. within an ASE service)?

2. How in God's name did you get the d*&% thing to run?!?

3. (I'm calm now) Is there any way to get the uname function to return
something other than the hostname (say the service name for instance)?

Any help here would be VERY greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance - Jef H. HamLin
