Poor network performance on AXP 4000

We've got a 4000 running Digital Unix 4.0B that
is providing horrible network performance. If I
copy a 60mb file from a Sun I'll call machine1
to the 4000 I'll call machine2 it takes 11 minutes.
If I copy that same 60mb file from machine1 to
a Sun ultra called machine3 it takes 11 seconds.
Something is seriously wrong!

All machines are on 100mb connections on the same
ethernet switch. The same tests on two other alpha
boxes running 4.0B yield similar results.

Could it have something to do with the way the ethernet
card is configured???

Has anyone seen this problem before??

markk_at_machine1# time rcp bigfile machine2:/dev/null

markk_at_machine1# time rcp bigfile machine3:/dev/null
0.0u 2.0s 0:11 17% 0+0k 0+0io 0pf+0w
