We are considering purchasing a tape library with DLT 7000 drives. DEC
sells a library that is the exact configuration as the ATL 5200. We believe
that DEC gets the shell from ATL & the drives from Quantum. When we ask DEC
if the ATL will work with two AS/2100's running DU 4.0b, DEC says NO!...
they change the microcode on both the library & the drives & some of the
functions will not work. Our parent company is really high on ATL, so we
think that they might want us to go that way.
I have two basic questions:

1) Does anyone have ATL libraries (with DLT 4000 or DLT 7000 drives)
attached to Alpha Servers running DU 4.0 ?
     - If so, is it true that some functionality is lost & what software
are you using to drive the library?

2) We are considering running the library with Network Save & Restore. If
we get the ATL is this a bad choice & should we use Alexandria or a
different package?

Any insight on DLT 7000 & DEC or non-DEC choices would be welcome response.
TIA
