adding Genicom printer to com1 port on a 2100 server

I would appreciate any help in determining how to attach a Genicom
4440XT 800 lpm printer to the serial port on the back of a 2100 server.
It is currently defined on a LAT connection but I would like to move to
direct attached com1 port. I assume that com1 is tty00? I added
entry to printcap exactly like tty02(current connection) except
ct=dev and used /dev/tty00. I also used lprsetup and it created exact
same entry in printcap. In a O'Reilly book it states that daemon.daemon
must own the spool directory but if I look at an existing spool
directory that works it is owned by root.system. Someone suggested that
I need to use makedev to create special file for Genicom but I attached
an Okidata serial printer to com1 port but it does not work?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated since I do not profess to
be a Unix admin...
