Accessing SROM monitor prompt

I have a DEC AlphaStation 500/333 that I recently attempted to reboot. The
reboot process hasn't completely succeeded and I get the message

kloadserv: kernel load server already running

printing over and over on my console. I have 3 years experience running a
small Sun based network but Alphas are new to me. If I were on a Sun I
would boot from CDROM and mount the filesystems and try troubleshooting
from there. I assume that would be the first step on an Alpha but I don't
know how to get an SROM prompt so that I can boot from CD. The
documentation I have read so far indicates I should run the unix shutdown
command, but if I were able to get the system prompt and run shutdown I
wouldn't need to boot the CD :)

Does anyone know how to get the SROM prompt? On a Sun you just type
<STOP><A>, but what do you do on an Alpha?
