? w/ tlz09 on mylex controller

on a 4100 w/ duinx 3.2g
i've just upgraded my scsi controller to a 3 channel mylex dac960
the disks work fine, but the tape drive is no longer visible from the os
the swxcrmgr software identifies the tape w/ no problem
so the controller know it's there
but when i boot from genvmunix, the device never shows up
does anyone have any insight on the problem
