A long time ago :-) I wrote

:We are experiencing problems with PCs running Windows 95 or NT and
:Hummingbird's NFS Maestro product when accessing files held on a server
:running DU 3.2. The problem occurs when the Sharing option is enabled on
:Maestro, and results in the PC hanging when trying to access a file. If sharing
:is not used then it works ok. The problem does not occur with PCs running
:DOS 6.2 and Sun PC-NFS. It also does not occur with Maestro when connected to
:servers running other OS (such as Ultrix, Sun-OS, HP-UX). As our 2 main
:servers for home directories are Alphas, and we are in the process of going
:over to NT in a big way, this is a major concern. Has anyone come across this
:before and knows of a patch, either for Maestro or DU?

Various people suggested using Samba rather than Maestro, and I will be
investigating this. However I was able to track down the problem to the
rpc.lockd program on 3.2. I was able to get Maestro to work fine with a machine
running 3.2c and so I ended up just copying the rpc.lockd from the 3.2c machine
onto the 3.2 machine and it solved the problem.
