PC memory in Alpha 1000

Hi

We have a rack mount Alpha 1000, which we would like
to upgrade with memory.

I have heard PC memory simm's could be used, instead of Digitals
memory simms. Can people confirm if this is possible? Does the
memory have to be inserted in blocks of 4 simms?
