You can pick them up anywhere pretty cheap. These are one of the standard card that come w/ Alpha Workstations. If you are not looking for high end graphics, this is the route I would take (as an ex-FE for DEC). I've never tried putting one in that didn't come from DEC, but I've talked to many who have. He suggested finding out what type of card DEC puts in the machine that you guys bought and then pricing it on the open market. It should be cheaper. Also, ask about the PCI graphics card that DEC puts into that machine and look that one up on the open market rather than any EISA card. You may want to ask DEC if the card off of the open market will work. -David ****************************************** David Shrewsbury (shrewsbu_at_niehs.nih.gov) Unix System Administrator I.T.S.S. > From alpha-osf-managers-relay_at_sws1.ctd.ornl.gov Tue May 27 10:29:33 1997 > Sender: alpha-osf-managers-relay_at_sws1.ctd.ornl.gov > From: odk_at_cs.appstate.edu (Oscar Knight) > Subject: 3rd party graphics cards? > To: alpha-osf-managers_at_ornl.gov > Date: Tue, 27 May 1997 09:59:56 -0400 (EDT) > > Hello, > > We're in the process of purchasing a few alphastations. Knight | odk_at_cs.appstate.edu I'm using ATI Graphics Pro Turbo. Works fine with small drawbacks while using it in text mode. But I'm using X, so everything is fine so far. Don't know about 24-bit modes, I use 1024x768 256-color. Card costs about 200$ here in Estonia.
