killing a 'U' process

Hi all,
i have 2 processes going that have a U under status. U means they are
"uninteruptable sleeping processes". well i want to interupt them all
right, in fact i want to kill them-but they won't die. kill -9 proc#
has no affect on these beasts. any suggestions? thanx!
