Sun shadow password compatability

Calling all guru's,

Has anyone managed to get OSF1 to work with Sun shadow passwd?

If so can you...

a) Tell me how to do it
b) Tell Digital how to do it

Yes I know that DEC operates a shadow passwd but their
encryption is different to Sun. After much thought the
best that the DEC megabrains could come up with was to
re-encrypt the entire passwd file in DEC format on a DEC
box and then pass the file back to the Sun server to look
after. This plan is tragically flawed for many reasons.

I cannot believe that I am the first to confront this
problem, there has to be an answer out there somewhere!
