Dear all
In the process of trying to read tarred files from our tape drive (tar tvf
/dev/nrmt0h or tar xvf) I discovered some problems with the tape drive.
First, when doing these or other mt commands to this drive, I hear a harsh
buzzing noise right after it rewinds or goes forward a bit.
In looking the info with 'mt status', I see that the computer thinks that
the tape drive is on scsi 4 ( where the cdrom is - the tape drive is on
scsi 5):
slave_num 4
dev_name tz
unit_num 4
Then, in looking at the error log, I find that there are lots of
SCSI/CAM errors. So, I looked in the archive and found many questions,
but few helpful summaries. The majority of summaries look like hardware
problems.
I hope that this is not the case. In fact, I suspect it is a software
problem with either our DU4.0b (alpha255/300) or with the patch we
installed recently (patch kit-0004). So, included below is the error log.
If someone can direct me to the appropriate patch (there seems to be so
many problems with 4.0b on the alpha255/300) or let me know if it is a
hardware problem, I'd appreciate it.
