Hello,
My client is using a token ring network (I still can't believe it)
DEC sold them a Thomas Conrad Token ring adapter to use in their
alphaserver 1000. It works fine, but there are some problems/questions that
I would like to elucidate.
a) When we go down at the console prompt, we receive A LOT of messages
telling us that it cannot initialize the token ring adapter.
b) When we are finally at the console prompt (>>>) and we issue the 'boot'
command, it takes a very very very long time before the system boots.
Meanwhile, we receive zillions or errors telling us that the 'adapter
cannot be opened'.
c) The documentation that came with this card is very NT-centric (They do
not mention DU anywhere) and the adapter setup utility runs only on NT. Do
we have to move that card to an NT machine and configure it ?
d) The hardware manual that came with the alphaserver 1000 never mentions
anything about token ring adapter (It does not even mention under which
name the device should show with the 'show dev' command and what are the
available switches that we can set at the >>> level. The help command from
the console prompt does not show anything more)
If someone can help with that token ring thing, please send some info. I
would normally help myself and call DEC, but this place is so big and so
deeply drowned in an administrative sea of .... that I can't even talk to
their sysadmin and get the support contract #.
TIA
P.S: I searched the archives for token ring info and found nothing. Are
they the only one using such a thing ? I am not familiar with this stuff,
as you can see.
