My original question was:

>I have installed a JAZ drive on an ALPHA 400/233 running DU 3.2d-1.
>The SCSI ID is 5. When I do a >>>show dev the JAZ drive is listed as
>DKA500. However when I boot the system only the first four scsi
>devices are recognized. Is there something that I am missing?

Alan Nabeth happily pointed me to the scu utility and away from
rebuilding the kernel. The problem was that the JAZ drive unit was
faulty. Iomega diagnosed the problem over the phone. The test they
used was: disconnect the drive from the machine, apply power to the
drive and if the green light on the drive flahes after the drive spins
up then it is faulty.

A new drive works just fine.

Iomega called yesterday to make sure that we were happy with the new
drive
