How can I change Password of a local account with NIS overrides ?

Have setup local accounts using dxaccounts on DU4.0B.
UID and GID are taken from the NIS db, the password and
home directory is stored local on a NIS client.
The entry in /etc/passwd file is:
+user1:::User 1:/usr/users/user1:/bin/sh

How can such a user change the password ????

passwd and yppasswd doesn't work.
dxaccounts works for root only.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
