This very odd, maybe someone has run into it before and can point me
at a tool or procedure to deal with it.
<boring story on how I found this skipped>
I have a directory, and its contained files, which allege to be owned by
root, but cannot be touched in any way by root. I first tried becoming
root by using su -, when that didn't work I tried the *real* root
at the system console, just in case there was some subtle difference.
The following is a sample of what I see as root:
# ls -l
total 37
-rw------- 1 root system 13955 Jan 19 1996 APPENDIX
-rw------- 1 root system 1112 Jan 19 1996 BUGS
-rwx------ 1 root system 6951 Jan 19 1996 Crack
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 DictSrc
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 Dicts
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 Docs
-rw------- 1 root system 4775 Jan 19 1996 LICENCE
-rw------- 1 root system 2395 Jan 19 1996 MANIFEST
-rw-r--r-- 1 root system 251 Jan 19 1996 Makefile
-rw------- 1 root system 1243 Jan 19 1996 README
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 19 1996 Runtime
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 Scripts
drwxr-xr-x 2 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 Sources
-rw------- 1 root system 349 Jan 19 1996 TODO
-r--r--r-- 1 root system 673 Jan 31 1996 TRANS.TBL
drwx------ 5 root system 512 Jan 30 1996 cracklib25_small
# file TODO
TODO: cannot open for reading
TODO: Permission denied
I didn't install these, the previous SA did, so I don't know what, if
anything, was different when they were installed.
Any ideas on how to delete this stuff without simply reformatting the
volume would be appreciated.
