Hi DU Admins
I always thought root's shell should be statically linked. On our
433au with DU 4.0C factory installed root's shell is set to /bin/sh
which is actually /usr/bin/sh and is dynamically linked.
I checked the other alphas on our network and they're using
/bin/sh or /bin/bash (also dynamically linked). All these
machines including the 433au boot okay into single user and
work fine with only the root partition mounted.
So is it a myth that root's shell should be statically linked?
If you can have /bin/sh as your shell then why not /bin/ksh or
/bin/posix/sh? Using bash as the root shell hasn't caused any
problems in more than 18 months.
Ian
