running sendmail with non-root permissions?

I would like to run sendmail with non-root permissions for
security purposes in Digital Unix 4.0B. Is it possible? What
changes to file permissions must be done for sendmail to run
as non-root?

I changed ownership and permissions of sendmail and of a mail
queue like this:

/usr/lib/sendmail -rwsr-sr-x mqueue mqueue
/var/spool/mqueue drwxr-xr-x mqueue mqueue

but sendmail still hangs when sending mail, probably because of
insufficient permissions. I use sendmail for outgoing mail only,
I do not run it in background for incoming mail.

Have anybody solved this problem?
