C++ compiler internal error - any patches available?

I am trying to compile an OpenInventor program on DUNIX, using TGS's
OpenInventor for DUnix.

I was able to get some of the files to compile, after some effort (the program
was written for an older version of OpenInventor), but the main module won't
compile. It has lots of includes, probably of the order of 100000 or more lines
(much more?) and think I may be running up against some internal compiler
limits.

Some details:
fudge.hs.washington.edu> cxx -V
cxx (cxx)
DEC C++ V5.5-004 on Digital UNIX (Alpha)

The error message:
make
cxx -I. -g $OIV_CC_OPTS -DIV_STRICT -c heartviewer_p2.cc -o heartviewer_p2.o
Assertion failure: Compiler internal error - please submit problem report
GEM ASSERTION, Compiler internal error - please submit problem report
Fatal error in: /usr/lib/cmplrs/cxx/gemc_cxx Terminated
*** Exit 3
Stop.

The above happens with only 2 short functions in the file heartviewer_p2.cc.
With only 1 function, no error occurs. The whole program has dozens of
functions which I cut out several at a time to see if I could get anything to
compile.

I will submit a problem report once I figure out to whom to send it, since we
are on the CSLG here.

Anyone have a clue? Or something else to try?
