Aha.. I didn't have either of these links...
Probably somewhere along the line I removed something and it
took them away ...but this was after I installed my fortran and pascal
subsets.
so I did this:
# ln -s /usr/lib/cmplrs/fortrtl/libFutil.so /usr/shlib/libFutil.so
# ln -s /usr/lib/cmplrs/fortrtl/libFutil.a /usr/lib/libFutil.a
which made everything compile and work ok again.
(thanks to Paul and Brian for pointing me where I needed to go.)

Hi Pam -
That file (libFutil.a) is part of the Fortran Run Time Library, although
why your pascal code would need it I don't know. Maybe the Pascal
libraries require this? Anyway, look for DFARTLxxx if you want
to install the Fortran run-time support. It includes:
./usr/lib/libFutil.a
./usr/shlib/libFutil.so
